Who Are The Glentress Trailfairies?

The Glentress Trailfairies are volunteers who help out with maintenance work on the existing bike trails and hand-build new sections of singletrack at Glentress Forest. The group was established in 2002.

Trailbuilding sessions take place on Saturdays from 9am - 4pm.
No pre booking is required, just turn up on the day and say hello, you'll be made very welcome. We meet up at 9am at the toolshed in the Upper Overflow carpark (old Osprey car park) at Glentress.

Who Runs The Group

The Trailfairies is a Forestry Commission Scotland led volunteer group, with sessions normally supervised by one of the Mountainbike Rangers.

How Old Do I Have To Be

Under 12's - Please bring a parent or guardian to the sessions

Under 18's - Please bring a parent/guardian to the start of your first session to complete the Sign Up form (or even better bring them along to the sessions as well!).

Parking

Glentress has several parking options. The trail head is at Glentress Peel visitor centre. 
 

Car Parking Charges:

 £2 for 1 hour perfect if you’re stopping off for some food and refreshments in the café.
 £5 per day (or £3.50 for 3 hours). This applies to all car parks at this location Glentress Peel (over 100 spaces), Falla Brae, Buzzards Nest and our two overflow car parks.
You can pay car park charges by credit or debit card (with chip and pin) in the two Glentress Peel car parks and the Buzzard's Nest car park.  If you prefer to pay by cash the machines accept all denomination coins but do not accept notes.

Forest Park Gateway building (toilets, showers & changing) at Glentress Peel:

  Sat - 9am - 5.30pm

Showers cost £1 for 5 minutes

Bike Hire

Alpine Bikes
Monday - Friday open 9.30am to 6pm;

Trail Conditions

Glentress - Current at 17th April 2015


Trails: All open with the exception of Pennels Vennel on the Red MTB Route which is closed due to dangerous windblown trees across the trail. A diversion is in place (reopening date tbc) and Blue Route closed at post 11 (start of forest road section heading away from Buzzards Nest car park) with a diversion via forest roads rejoining the Blue Route at post 17 until end April 2015 (7 days/week), due to tree felling operations.

Until end of April, Red MTB Route also closed at post 44 (Hit Squad Hill entry) with a diversion via forest roads and an old walking path, rejoining Route at post 54 (Tourist Trap entry). Sections on Red closed are Hit Squad Hill, Pie Run, Mushroom Pie, Matrix, Lombard St & Magic Mushroom (last ¼ of Magic Mushroom is open for Black Route diversion).  Black MTB Route closed at post 94 (Wormhole exit) with a very short diversion rejoining Route near end of Magic Mushroom.  Closures due to tree felling operations and apply 7 days/week.

Conditions: Good. Dry trail surfaces, loose in places.

Diversions: Red MTB Route diverted at post 37 (Pennels Vennel entry),  rejoins Route at post 38 (Spookywood Climb entry). See also above.

Innerleithen - Current at 17th April 2015

DH Trails: All open except on Sat 18th and Sun 19th April all down hill trails closed for British Universities Downhill Championships.

XC Trail:  All open

Conditions: Good. Dry trail surfaces, loose in places.

Diversions: Short temporary diversion on XC Trail at the very end of the Lead Mine Climb and for first 100m of Clattering Path (post 18) due to storm damaged trees. See also above.
