Who Are The Glentress Trailfairies?

The Glentress Trailfairies are volunteers who help out with maintenance work on the existing bike trails and hand-build new sections of singletrack at Glentress Forest. The group was established in 2002.

Trailbuilding sessions take place on Saturdays from 9am - 4pm.
No pre booking is required, just turn up on the day and say hello, you'll be made very welcome. We meet up at 9am at the toolshed in the Upper Overflow carpark (old Osprey car park) at Glentress.

Who Runs The Group

The Trailfairies is a Forestry Commission Scotland led volunteer group, with sessions normally supervised by one of the Mountainbike Rangers.

Under 12's - Please bring a parent or guardian to the sessions

Under 18's - Please bring a parent/guardian to the start of your first session to complete the Sign Up form (or even better bring them along to the sessions as well!).

Parking

Glentress has several parking options. The trail head is at Glentress Peel visitor centre. 
 

Car Parking Charges:

 £2 for 1 hour perfect if you’re stopping off for some food and refreshments in the café.
 £5 per day (or £3.50 for 3 hours). This applies to all car parks at this location Glentress Peel (over 100 spaces), Falla Brae, Buzzards Nest and our two overflow car parks.
You can pay car park charges by credit or debit card (with chip and pin) in the two Glentress Peel car parks and the Buzzard's Nest car park.  If you prefer to pay by cash the machines accept all denomination coins but do not accept notes.

 

Toilets

Forest Park Gateway building (toilets, showers & changing) at Glentress Peel: Open 9am - 5pm Daily. Showers cost £1 for 5 minutes

Bike Hire

Alpine Bikes
Monday - Friday open 9.30am to 4.30pm;
Saturday & Sunday open 9am - 5pm

Trail Conditions

Glentress - Current at 23rd January 2015


Trails: All open with the exception of Pennels Vennel on the Red MTB Route which is closed due to dangerous windblown trees across the trail. A diversion is in place (reopening date tbc).

From Mon 12th Jan to end of Fri 6th Feb (7 days per week): Buzzards Nest carpark closed to vehicles (Falla Brae carpark remains open if road clear of snow/ice); Cardie Hill Climb on Outward Blue/Red/Black Route closed with diversion from post 8 (exit of Dougie Bank Climb) rejoining Routes at post 10 (Buzzards Nest car park);  Electric Blue on Blue Route closed with diversion from post 30 rejoining Route at post 31 (Falla Brae entry); Red/Black Route Return closed at post 55 (exit of Tourist Trap) with diversion via Admiral back to Trailhead. 

These closures and diversions are due to tree felling operations, part of a large programme of tree thinning improvements at Glentress ongoing until May 2015. 

 

Conditions: Icy in places, snow at all levels but very changeable. Watch out for storm damaged trees/branches across trails.  

 

Diversions: Red MTB Route diverted at post 37 (Pennels Vennel entry),  rejoins Route at post 38 (Spookywood Climb entry). See also above.

Innerleithen - Current at 23rd January 2015

 

DH Trails: All open

 

XC Trail:  All open.

 

Conditions: Icy in places, snow on all levels but very changeable. Watch out for storm damaged trees/branches across trails.  

 

Diversions: Short temporary diversion on XC Trail at the very end of the Lead Mine Climb and for first 100m of Clattering Path (post 18) due to storm damaged trees. See also above.
