Glentress Skills Area

Glentress Skills Area Stats

Grade: Green - Easy
Distance: 1.5Km
Singletrack: 100%

Note:  the Skills Area is reopening on Sat 7th April following trail maintenance and improvement works.  There are now some differences between the  grading of the loops in the Skills Area 'on the ground' and what's detailed on the current 7stanes trail map.

Best to park at: Buzzards Nest car park - the Area is around 500m pedal from here via forest road and a short singletrack link trail.

Glentress' Skills Area is a must for anyone who is new to the sport of mountain biking.

•    Green Loop - a short loop in the very centre of the Skills Area, it's the perfect place to start out, build confidence and practise core riding skills - ideal for kids and beginners.  Green and optional Blue graded features are dotted around the Loop with plenty of space between them.  Features include log balance beams, rock hops and rollers.   There's also a shelter and a picnic bench with stunning views out across the Tweed Valley.

•    Blue Loop - the main trail in the Skills Area.  New for spring 2012 are rock roll and rock step (drop off) sections, which have the main Blue grade line aswell as optional Red and Black graded features along side for to further develop your skills and confidence.  Both also have dedicated push up paths and viewing areas making them ideal for sessioning and group teaching. Other features around the Loop include switchback climbing turns, jumps and bermed corners.

•    Red Trail - a short red graded descent which is narrower than the Blue Loop and includes tight turns and a short rock garden.

Having been to many trail centres, this is surely the best of them. Maybe think about the green routes and find a way of linking them, so there's an easy ride from the new trail centre and means visitors with families can get the best Glentress experience ever!!

It was my first time riding any of the 7stanes. I went on the Blue Trail and the view is epic and there is lots of varying difficulty along the trail itself. I will definately be going back again in the summer time.
