Ae Valley Route

Ae Valley Route Stats

Grade: Green - Easy
Distance: 9Km
Singletrack: 30%
Estimated Time To Ride The Route: 1 - 2 hrs

The Ae Valley Route is an entry level mountain bike trail aimed primarily at families. It’s not a full singletrack loop but takes in sections of singletrack mixed in with forest road, and the singletrack gradients are very easy - although there is one short, sharp climb on forest road.

Water of Ae viewpoint

The trail runs up the Ae valley to a lovely viewpoint overlooking the Water of Ae - a beautiful place to stop and picnic, with lots of rocks around the river. It returns down the valley running next to the river, taking in some easy handrailed wooden boardwalk with safety of riders a main consideration. It runs through the Craigshields outdoors centre site with a meadow to the left. Crossing back over the Water of Ae, there are good views down the river off the bridge.

A gentle downhill swoop

The finish is a twisty, gentle downhill swoop – back over the river again on the Naize bridge before returning to the car park.

Looking to step up to the next level? Try the blue-graded Larch View route - it shares much of the same trail as the green route but there's an extra 4.5km through the forest on forest road.

Did this today with an 8 yr old and 5 yr old and they loved it! Just enough for their first venture but they already want to go back

First time that I have ever been mountain biking and it was great. Some parts were difficult, but what a thrill. Cant wait to get my own bike and do it again.

This was a great trail, very easy to follow, beautiful surroundings and no hills except one so it was no problem to ride for an oldie like me and my young grandson. Great day out.
